11.30 P.M.. Friday Night
Mother calls re daughter, aged 2 1/2, who has had an earache for half an hour.
“Please could 1 have some antibiotics, my doctor always gives antibiotics”.
The little girl has recently had a heavy cold. She went to bed but has just woken up screaming and saying her ear hurts. She has had many ear infections,they last only a month ago. She is otherwise fit and well. Mother works, and itis difficult for the child to be taken to the surgery in working hours. Also,she doesn’t really like giving antibiotics but feels she should ask the doctor to come out because the child’s grandmother insists that it is the right thing to do.
