Mr C is a 55 year old non-smoking school teacher from Castle Terrace whose three brothers died from heart attacks between the ages of 45 and 60. He is very well but thought he should come for a blood pressure check which you find to be 160/90.
After a series of three blood pressure readings over four weeks his average is 140/90. You look for other risk factors and find his total cholesterol to be 6, HDL cholesterol 1.1 and his ECG shows no LVH.
You inform him of his Framingham Risk Score and he leaves the surgery a very anxious man.
