Father calls
“I want the doctor out, now, to see my boy”
The child has become feverish over the last few hours. He is 4 years old, and on interrogation of the father proves to be simply’ hot a bit grumpy, but cheerfully watching a video. There is no other symptoms and no rash.
BUT
the father’s brothers child developed a feverish illness aged 3, which turned out to be bacterial meningitis. Initially, the doctor did not go, but did on the second request. The child now has a hearing problem, and a nurse in casualty said as an aside – “those GPs’, they never want to visit”.
HOWEVER
the father does not really want to tell the doctor this because he feels foolish about worrying about it.
