This scale was devised by the North Northumberland Trainer Group in the mid 1980’s, and we still use it today. It is really a brief syllabus of general practice.
I use the scale as a confidence rating with the GP registrar at the start, middle and end of their 6 months. Use of the scale highlights areas which are in particular need of attention, but bear in mind that it is a qualitative not quantitative analysis: GP registrars often score themselves lower in some areas as their training progresses because they realise that the subject area has more implications for general practice than they had originally realised.
